Browsing Web: Where’s The Passion, Y’all?

Was searching the net for some ideas for a place to watch world cup 2006 and i found this article: Where’s The Passion, Y’all?

I was reminded recently that we used to have this camaraderie. Remember the Kallang Roar? Yup, more than 10years ago, I, a non-soccer fan, used to have dinner at the Old Kallang Airport Market and walk to the National Stadium whenever S’pore had a Malaysia Cup match. I was part of the Kallang Roar.

Gone are the days where you see 55,000 people converge in Kallang for that 90minutes where we stood proud. We were actually good at something, without any government body taking the lead. In those few years, S’pore was known for something other than its policies and busy port.

I think this is quite sad and this is not the first time I heard this. Some of my Singaporean friends told me the same before. And I heard some blogger saying so too.

Mr. Lee broke down emotionally during a televised speech on 9 August 1965 because he believed that it was crucial for Singapore’s survival. Did FAS think as far as Mr. Lee did when they made/forced to make such a tough decision? I’m not sure. But I think Singapore might be too small for so many teams, too little population to support so many teams.

But I hope Singapore is not too small to support their own souls as redcocoon also stated in the same post:

I browsed through an expat forum yesterday……… One expat quipped that S’poreans have no soul. I fully agree. We S’poreans were never allowed to have a soul.

Side notes: Did you know that, in 1983, Fandi Ahmad scored twice for Dutch’s FC Groningen against Barcelona in European football and scored once against Inter Milan in UEFA cup (Groningen won 2-0)?
