Had a great dinner yesterday at Double Bay Restaurant & Bar (hungrygowhere link). It’s Australian style.

It’s located outside Raffles City Shopping Centre, facing Raffles Hotel, nearest Raffles City exit is near Timberland.

It’s been a long time I had an above average western food. I don’t use perfect too often..

We had Organic Mushroom Soup ($9.90) as our starter. It’s slightly too salty, but I like the egg inside. Yes, egg in mushroom soup! The egg was something between hard-boiled and soft-boiled. This is the first time I tried this combination! But it taste great.

Then, we had 2 main courses. One of them was Fish & Chips, we ordered Australian Barramundi with Beer batter ($19.90, It’s their best seller according to the waiter). I love it. You can taste the fish (how often do you really enjoy the fish in fish & chips? They are always deep fried but tasteless), and it’s yummy! The sauces (vinegar, mayo and tomato) complement the food. And the thick-cut fries are something we both preferred. One down side, SM find it a bit oily.

The other dish was Capellini Vongole ($17.90). I like it because their vongole is big (wonder where was it from..), Capellini (thinner spaghetti) was tasteful. Nicely done!

Hey pals, let’s go there for the next meet up!

Update: [2009-Feb-11] Just came back from dinner. The standard seems to drop a lot.

Had a great weekend + bdae.

It all started with Kenneth‘s invitation for teh. It’s like a tradition. We go lim teh whenever we’re meeting each other in JB.

But not Ayub anymore. Last saturday, we went “時下年輕人去的地方” – é€?é?™é–£. But ended up, we noticed the “IN” place is downstair (Le Lounge or some name like that), not this place known by Ling Hai as “很多è€?人家的地方”. Anyway, I enjoyed the evening very much. Nice little gathering with Yiqi, James, Ting, Kenneth, Ying Xiang, Yue Zhen.

Had a good dinner with my family on friday. It’s a celebration for both DM (my bro) and my birthday. Our bdae is just 2 days away!

Then, on my bdae eve, my dear bring me to “my humble house” by Tung Lok.

It’s deco is like Hogwarts in China!

The restaurant is great, but expensive. We ordered 2 set dinner and 375ml Duval-Leroy Rose, that cost us 300+! But, to their defence, their waitresses are beautiful (very!), service is good (to name a few: walk me to the toilet, fold the napkin when I am away and very responsive) and the food is special and nice (I like the foie gras, scallop, lamb and toufu).

And we went Batam for a day trip on the actual day of my bdae. Enjoyed the message, and the donuts! (Anyone going to Batam soon? Me feel like to order some already!)

That’s about all for my bdae. Ops… did I say thanks for all of you (zixin, chiyu, jiaxian, huaying, ting, JJ, Yiqi, Pak Chong, LeQuor, Kenneth, SioYean, Templar & Sotong) who wish me happy bdae?

I enjoyed it. Thanks.

<ins datetime="2007-08-15T16:04:14+00:00">Update: 300+ for the whole dinner, pardon my English.. </ins>

Barolo have been one of the most impressive red wine, that I’ve tried, so far. I love the fragrance and it make me understand light bodied wine (hope i am right.. ) can still be as wonderful (normally I prefer something like Wolf Blass Grey Label). 3 of us, finished a bottle in no time, and you always know it’s a good wine if it can be finished so fast.

But, I regret to try half a glass of Jacob’s Creek straight afterward. It give me headache (my bro-in-law say I’m having a picky tongue). Maybe I should have let the taste of Nebbiolo juice stay in my mouth for a bit longer.

Ms. Jia Xian said today is the first day at work, in the year of pig. So, we got no choice but to let her buy us (Tin and me) dinner. Haiz~~

She read about an italian restaurant on newspaper, A FEW TIMES, so we went to Amici. And the followings are the food we ordered.

Calamari was ok, not the crispy type. But I think this is the best food we ordered.

Garlic Prawn. Hmm.. I bet the prawns were not that fresh after all.

Crayfish Spaghetti with mussel and prawn. Tin never complain and she finished the whole plate. I bet it’s ok.

Crab Meat Linguini. As you can see, quite oily. Not my style. Think Jia Xian finished hers too.

Squid Ink Spaghetti. I always want to try one. But, *ouch*, is it me or the food. I really can’t enjoy it. I didn’t even take half..

The lighting was far too dim also.

This post is not meant to criticize the restaurant, but our experience was really bad. Maybe we are just extremely unlucky? Anyway, none of us would want to come back.

The following are just some strange topics that we talked about during dinner.

Note 1: Tin, 完璧归赵 and 孙膑 were stories in 战国时期, but they are not related.

Note 2: I forgot what’s the 2nd item. Please remind me in comment. Haha.

Went to Il Lido with Siew Mei on Tuesday. A great place for dinner.

Heard of it for a long time, but this is the 1st time we decided to give it a try.

Our antipasti is 24 months aged Parma ham, and we took “a lot” of the thin baked bread. (we were quite hungry as both of us did not take much for lunch, and the dinner starts at 7:45pm).

For the main, Siew Mei ordered Cod Fillet and I ordered tagliatelle with wagyu beef and goose liver. The Cod Fillet was thick and it taste like a big one, but disappointingly it’s not as “oily” as we used to get from a Cod. I like my tagliatelle, probably because this is the 1st time I had wagyu. And I must say, wagyu plus goose liver, is great!

Because of the beef and goose liver, I choose to drink a glass of their house wine. It’s Azelia’s Barolo 1999, and I like it! Wonder where can I get a bottle.

For dessert, Siew Mei had molten chocolate cake and I had crème brulee.

We had wonderful dinner. This is a good place for dinner, or a drink.

Info:
Il Lido is located in Sentosa Golf Club. We took MRT to HarbourFront, then transfer to Sentosa by Sentosa Orange Bus. The entrance fee for Sentosa Island is S$3 now. From there, we took Yellow line bus to Sentosa Golf Club. Inform bus captain that you are going there, and he’ll inform you when you need to alight.

One of the reasons for me to setup a blog site, is to share. Share something nice. For today’s post, it means food.

I went to Adam Food Centre yesterday, for the famous Prawn Noodle.

Great food. I love the soup, especially with the chili powder. my sis told me they cooked it with crab. (no wonder it taste great, I’m a crab lover!)

Beside prawn noodle, they also serve crabs. And all the crabs have lots of egg. $10 each, worth it!

This is my dinner, $15. Super sinful. 1 Crab, 2 medium-sized-prawn, Bee Hoon (Chinese Vermicelli) Mee (Noodle) and yummy soup.

More details? Go to Adam Road Food Centre (the star), check out the store with the longest queue. (sometime the Nasi Lemak have a long queue too, but to me, this prawn noodle is the best!)

SM and I went to Vis-A-Vis (page is not up-to-date) on her birthday. We had a wonderful dinner.

We went there last year, and she loves the dessert there. So this year, as she’s so stress with her school work (exam next week!), I decided to bring her back there and enjoy her favourite dessert!

It’s a great french restaurant. The owners are french food lovers and they told us, last year, that they’ll go to France few times a year to visit the restaurants there, and get some inspiration for their quarterly updated menu. If you visit their restaurant, you’ll see lots of pictures of France, some french chef and, of course, themselves.

We had escargots, mushroom soup and crayfish soup for entrees. I changed SM’s impression of “snails” after I brought her around tasting the good one,

SM had fish from the Set Menu and I had lobster. The fish is great. The chef rolled the fish fillet and filled it with crab meat, salmon and spinach. I can’t help but keep snatching from SM’s plate.

After the fish and lobster, we looked at each others and said: “Hmm.. here come the Main Dish..”. That’s very true. You can’t call any restaurant a french restaurant, if they don’t serve good dessert. And Vis-A-Vis, they simply serve the best. On our table, we have Tiramisu from the set menu, and Choc Torte. There are 3 items in Choc Torte: Rum & Raisin Ice Cream, Banana Flambé with caramel & coconut and a chocolate mousse cake (I’m not sure of the name. It’s those cake which is freshly baked and the exterior is cake and hot chocolate mousse inside). This combination is awesome. The Flambé just melt in your mouth! Oh man, I am missing it already.

Happy Birthday, Dear. Hope you had a great dinner & birthday!!
