Batasiolo Barolo 2001

batasiolo barolo 2001 - front

Had a fine dinner at 莆田(兴化)é¤?馆 with my family. It’s a good restaurant at 127-129 Kitchener Rd, Singapore 208514 (little india area, just in front of city square site).

Then, we had a Batasiolo Barolo 2001 at home. Barolo have been one of the most impressive red wine, that I’ve tried, so far. I love the fragrance and it make me understand light bodied wine (hope i am right.. :P ) can still be as wonderful (normally I prefer something like Wolf Blass Grey Label). 3 of us, finished a bottle in no time, and you always know it’s a good wine if it can be finished so fast.

But, I regret to try half a glass of Jacob’s Creek straight afterward. It give me headache (my bro-in-law say I’m having a picky tongue). Maybe I should have let the taste of Nebbiolo juice stay in my mouth for a bit longer.

Amici at Holland Village

Posted by Eric Tan on Feb 27, 2007 in Makan Makan, echoes in a bowl

Ms. Jia Xian said today is the first day at work, in the year of pig. So, we got no choice but to let her buy us (Tin and me) dinner. Haiz~~

She read about an italian restaurant on newspaper, A FEW TIMES, so we went to Amici. And the followings are the food we ordered.

Calamari - Amici @ holland v

Calamari was ok, not the crispy type. But I think this is the best food we ordered.

Garlic prawn - Amici @ holland v

Garlic Prawn. Hmm.. I bet the prawns were not that fresh after all.

Crayfish Spaghetti - Amici @ holland v

Crayfish Spaghetti with mussel and prawn. Tin never complain and she finished the whole plate. I bet it’s ok.

Aglio Olio Crabmeat Linguini - Amici @ holland v

Crab Meat Linguini. As you can see, quite oily. Not my style. Think Jia Xian finished hers too.

Squid Ink Spaghetti - Amici @ holland v

Squid Ink Spaghetti. I always want to try one. But, *ouch*, is it me or the food. I really can’t enjoy it. I didn’t even take half..

The lighting was far too dim also.

This post is not meant to criticize the restaurant, but our experience was really bad. Maybe we are just extremely unlucky? Anyway, none of us would want to come back. :(

The following are just some strange topics that we talked about during dinner.

Note 1: Tin, 完璧归赵 and 孙膑 were stories in 战国时期, but they are not related. :D

Note 2: I forgot what’s the 2nd item. Please remind me in comment. Haha.

Italian food in Sentosa Island

Posted by Eric Tan on Feb 15, 2007 in Makan Makan, echoes in a bowl

Went to Il Lido with Siew Mei on Tuesday. A great place for dinner.

Heard of it for a long time, but this is the 1st time we decided to give it a try.

Our antipasti is 24 months aged Parma ham, and we took “a lot” of the thin baked bread. :P (we were quite hungry as both of us did not take much for lunch, and the dinner starts at 7:45pm).

For the main, Siew Mei ordered Cod Fillet and I ordered tagliatelle with wagyu beef and goose liver. The Cod Fillet was thick and it taste like a big one, but disappointingly it’s not as “oily” as we used to get from a Cod. I like my tagliatelle, probably because this is the 1st time I had wagyu. And I must say, wagyu plus goose liver, is great!

Because of the beef and goose liver, I choose to drink a glass of their house wine. It’s Azelia’s Barolo 1999, and I like it! Wonder where can I get a bottle. :)

For dessert, Siew Mei had molten chocolate cake and I had crème brulee.

We had wonderful dinner. This is a good place for dinner, or a drink.

Info:
Il Lido is located in Sentosa Golf Club. We took MRT to HarbourFront, then transfer to Sentosa by Sentosa Orange Bus. The entrance fee for Sentosa Island is S$3 now. From there, we took Yellow line bus to Sentosa Golf Club. Inform bus captain that you are going there, and he’ll inform you when you need to alight.
